We’ve all heard about the importance of Hydration, but exactly how does it help us so much?

Hydration helps with many things: thermoregulation, blood pressure regulation and even helps maintain a good blood volume. It helps in bringing nutrients to cells, getting rid of wastes, and keeps the kidneys working well. Staying well hydrated also helps protect your joints and organs.

Animals seem to be far more in tune to their basic needs. With our large human brains constantly thinking about work, stressing about traffic, etc… it’s easy to not realize that we are thirsty.

How much water should we drink? I grew up with the reccomendation “8 glasses per day” but always struggled to even come close. And, we receive water from the food we eat and other fluids we consume. Truth is, it varies from person to person, as some people sweat more. It varies depending on our activity level each day. And it may be affected by other things we consume, if they happen to be diuretic.

Bottom line: Pay attention to if you’re thirsty, and be sure to drink if you are.
