ICBC Concussion Treatment — Vancouver
Concussion is one of the most common injuries from a motor vehicle accident — even at low speeds, even without losing consciousness, even when you initially walked away feeling fine. Most ICBC concussion claimants also have whiplash, neck pain and persistent symptoms that don't show on imaging.
Envision Physiotherapy is a Complete Concussions Management (CCMI)-certified clinic with two Vancouver locations and direct billing to ICBC. We handle the paperwork end-to-end so you focus on recovery — not on insurance admin.
No referral required. ICBC direct billing. Same-week assessments.
What ICBC Enhanced Care covers
Under ICBC Enhanced Care (in effect for accidents on or after 1 May 2021), eligible claimants are entitled to a pre-authorised number of physiotherapy sessions following a motor vehicle accident, paid directly to your treating clinic with no out-of-pocket cost. Current allotment is up to 25 sessions in the first 12 weeks. Extensions are available with appropriate medical authorisation if your recovery requires more.
Envision Physiotherapy is set up as a direct-billing provider — we submit your claim, track your sessions and handle the documentation. You bring your claim number, we do the rest.
Why concussion physiotherapy matters for ICBC claims
Concussion symptoms that go untreated frequently become the chronic complication of an otherwise recoverable accident. Patients who receive CCMI-pathway rehabilitation in the first 4–8 weeks recover faster, return to work sooner and have measurably lower rates of post-concussion syndrome than those who wait.
Our pathway covers everything ICBC-covered concussion treatment should include: vestibular rehabilitation, visual/oculomotor therapy, sub-symptom-threshold cardio reconditioning, manual therapy for cervical and whiplash-associated dysfunction, and structured return-to-school / return-to-work / return-to-play plans.
Getting started after an accident
Step 1: file your claim with ICBC and get your claim number. Step 2: book directly with us — no doctor's referral required. Step 3: bring your claim number to your first visit; we verify coverage and direct-bill ICBC for every subsequent session. Most patients are in for their first assessment within 5–7 days of contacting us.
Common Questions
Will I have to pay anything out of pocket?
Under ICBC Enhanced Care, eligible physiotherapy sessions are direct-billed to ICBC with no patient cost. If your sessions exceed the standard allotment and your physician supports an extension, we apply on your behalf — most extensions are approved when there is documented clinical need.
Do I need a doctor's referral to start?
No. Physiotherapy is direct-access in British Columbia and is covered under ICBC Enhanced Care without a physician referral. Book directly and bring your claim number.
What if my accident was before May 2021?
Accidents before 1 May 2021 fall under the prior tort-based ICBC scheme. Coverage and limits differ — we'll verify your eligibility at intake and confirm direct-billing arrangements.
Can I see your physiotherapists if my injury is also covered by extended health?
Yes — many patients are covered by both ICBC and their extended health plan. We coordinate billing between the two so you don't pay out of pocket.
Do you treat both my whiplash and my concussion?
Yes — whiplash and concussion are almost always linked. Our assessment screens both systems on the first visit and our treatment plans address them in parallel. See our whiplash physiotherapy page for details.
