Vancouver’s Physiotherapy & Health Team
- Our TeamPhysiotherapy Brent Stevenson, BHKin, MScPT, RCAMT, CGIMS Brent is the founder and co-owner of Envision Physiotherapy. Currently he splits his clinical time between the two Envision offices. He has university degrees in both Human Kinetics and Physiotherapy as well as extensive post graduate training. Brent’s primary methods of treatment are IMS, movement training and manual therapy. Brent treats people of all ages and abilities at Envision Physiotherapy and strives to educate anyone willing to learn on his website WhyThingHurt.com. His experience includes working with Diane Lee, professional golfers and tennis players and teaching Pilates, Yoga and medical students. Harminder (Harry) Toor, BScPT, Sport Physio Dip., FCAMT, CGIMS Harry is co-owner of Envision Physiotherapy. Currently he splits his clinical time between the two Envision offices. Following University, he has had extensive post graduate training. He spent three years as the therapist for the Men’s Technical ski team, and has been a part of the medical team for the 2006 and 2010 winter Olympics. Harry’s primary methods of treatment are manual therapy, IMS and exercise. Through his training and experience travelling with teams, Harry has developed critical assessment and treatment skills worthy of our national and Olympic level athletes. At Envision Physiotherapy he works with clients of all ages and abilities. Harry has also built a free online exercise database, physiohub.com. He is currently an instructor for Sport Physiotherapy Canada, and teaches other sport physiotherapists, athletic trainers and medical students. Trish Kazun, BHKin, MScPT, RCAMT, CAFCI Trish joined the Envision Physiotherapy team at the Target Fitness location in November 2008. She has experience working with people of all ages and fitness abilities, but has a special interest in treating running injuries whether it be weekend warriors or elite athletes. Trish has completed numerous half and full marathons, and recently laced up her hiking boots and hiked the Inca Trail and Mount Kilimanjaro. Trish has worked as a Kinesiologist and Personal Trainer in her “past life”, and has acted as an Athletic Trainer for lacrosse and volleyball teams. She graduated from SFU with a Bachelors Degree in Kinesiology, and from McMaster University with a Master Degree in Rehabilitation Sciences (Physiotherapy). She is a certified Manual Therapist (RCAMT), and has taken post-graduate courses in manual therapy, acupuncture, and running injuries. Natalie Grant, BHKin, MScPT Her practice areas of interest include management of arthritis along the continuum (from mild to severe), joint replacement rehabilitation and other post-surgical rehabilitation including rotator cuff repair, ACL reconstruction, Achilles tendon repair and fracture fixation. She is currently working towards certification as a Level 3 Orthopaedic Manual Therapist. Her education has included a Master of Science in Physiotherapy from McMaster University in 2004 and a Bachelor of Applied Science in Kinesiology from Simon Fraser University in 2000. She is currently a teaching assistant and clinical faculty member with the Master of Physiotherapy Program at UBC. She also keeps busy as a member of the OASIS team at Vancouver Coastal Health. She has a strong background in therapeutic exercise and has previously worked extensively with orthopaedic rehabilitation as a Kinesiologist. Tony Gui, BHKin, MPT, CAFCI Tony joined the Envision Physiotherapy team after receiving his Master’s of Physical Therapy and Bachelor’s of Human Kinetics, both from the University of British Columbia. He has also completed his acupuncture training through the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada Institute and is currently pursuing his Advanced Diploma of Manual and Manipulative therapy. Tony works diligently One-on-One with each client, combining a “hands-on” approach of manual therapy, myofascial release techniques, acupuncture/dry needling, and exercise to ensure the best results for his clients. Tony is actively involved with the Athletic Performance and Rehabilitation program for the Canadian Men’s Field Hockey team, working with the athletes to develop better movement strategies for performance and injury prevention. He has also been part of the medical team for various international-level competitions to community sporting events in Vancouver. Aside from sports and orthopeadic injuries, Tony also has a special interest in treating clients who have been in a motor vehicle accident. He enjoys helping clients of all ages return to their sports, activities, or work. Massage Therapy Renee Simons Renee’s interest in kinetics and functional muscle movement began with Kinesiology studies at Simon Fraser University (SFU) . In 2004, she graduated from Okanagan Valley College of Massage Therapy and is a member of the College of Massage Therapists of BC and the Massage Therapists Association. Since becoming a Registered Massage Therapist, Renee has focused her on post-graduate training and clinical practice around Myofascial Release and Visceral Manipulation. Renee has been active throughout her life and has competed in swimming, volleyball, basketball and was a member of SFU Women’s rowing crew. Currently she participates in yoga and has recently returned to running since the birth of her first child. Her background in athletics has inspired Renee to develop a practice around treating sports injuries and postural imbalances, but her techniques are also effective for those suffering from a wide range of chronic pain, including: back and joint pain, digestive and reproductive complaints and the discomfort and tension caused by traumatic & surgical scarring. Kinseiology Tara Keller • Kinesiologist, Practicing Member under the BCAK and CKA • Certified Medical Exercise Specialist • Certified Functional Movement Systems™ Provider Tara received her Honours Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology in 1995 from the University of Waterloo after completing five years of focused studies, including two years (3800 hours) of clinical practice. She became certified as a Medical Exercise Specialist in 1997 and voluntarily elected to recertify under clinical examination by a registered Physiotherapist in 2006. In 2009, she gained certification as a Functional Movement Systems™ provider. Tara instructs Kinesiologists and allied health professionals nationally on functional anatomy, assessment of movement patterns and corrective exercise programming in the management of injury and athletic performance. In her spare time, Tara continues to develop her passion for outdoor pursuits. She competed for 6 years as an endurance athlete in multi-day adventure races, long-distance running events and triathlons. Now her passion as an avid climber, cyclist and paddler takes her to remote regions around the world. Pilates Karen Weggler, Pilates Instructor & Rehab Assistant Karen began her career in movement with training in classical and modern dance, and a semi-professional equestrian career. She began practicing Pilates at the age of 13 and has been teaching for more than 18 years. She has taught conditioning for dance programs for various ballet companies in Canada and Europe, and training elite level athletes. She learned to instruct the Pilates method from Pilates elders Romana Kryzanowska, Marie Jose Blom-Lawrence, Ron Fletcher, Kathy Grant, Alan Herdman, and The Pilates Center at Boulder. Karen holds a BAA (Ryerson) in fine arts/dance, and an interdisciplinary MA in Education, Kinesiology, and Fine Arts (Simon Fraser University). She now heads the Movement Studio’s teacher training program. Having sustained injuries in numerous motor vehicle accidents, she became very interested in the relationships between pain, rehabilitation, and movement re-patterning. She is focused on continued studies in longitudinal and visceral anatomy, lumbo-pelvic stability, and biomechanics. Karen’s love for Pilates, and deep respect for the wisdom of the body encourages her to continually evolve her teaching practice, and to discover ways to best assist clients in realizing their full movement potential. Danielle McCullouch, Pilates Instructor Danielle holds a BAdance with distinction from the University of Calgary, a certificate in Dynamic EmbodimentTM – Somatic Movement Therapy Training from Martha Eddy, and is a Registered Somatic Movement Therapist with ISMETA. She is a certified CranioSacral Therapist, as well as a Pilates Method Alliance® Certified Pilates Teacher. She started teaching as a personal trainer including Pilates in her programming starting in 1999. She has a background in competitive figure skating, professional dance, and choreography. She has been guest instructor for the University of Calgary Dance Program, Calgary youth programs for dance, the 2009/2010 Laban and Bartenieff Studies with Janet Kalo, and The Movement Studio Pilates Teacher Training Program. In 2011 Danielle initiated an ongoing class called “Inspirations” to support somatic teaching methodology amongst instructors and students. Cinzia Toniolo, Pilates Instructor Cinzia found her love for movement later in life, becoming a Fitness Instructor in 2000. She discovered Pilates that same year and was immediately drawn to it’s focuses: empowering body awareness, improving kinesthetic sense, and improving inner body connectivity to facilitate ease of movement. Since falling in love with Pilates, she has had extensive training in a variety of fields. Cinzia brings focused, constant, keen attention to her sessions with clients affected by spinal conditions, (arthritis, scoliosis, slipped and herniated disks, osteoporosis), and hip, knee, or shoulder injuries. She also enjoys working with pre and post-natal women, helping them to find center and balance. Her teaching tools help lead each client into smoother and more efficient movement patterns, so that they may transfer them into everyday life, and into their favorite movement activities.
